The MOSSAR Color Guard participated in a NSDAR Medal of Honor Recipient presentation, hosted by the Prairie Chapter for Carl DiCapo, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church,615 SE Todd George Parkway Lees Summit, Missouri on Saturday, September 10, 2011. The Prairie Chapter DAR honored Carl DiCapo with the NSDAR Medal of Honor, which is the most prestigious honor awarded by the DAR. The recipient must be a native born American who has shown extraordinary qualities of leadership, trustworthiness, service, and patriotism. The recipient must have made unusual and lasting contributions to our American heritage by truly giving of himself/herself to his/her community, state, country, and fellow man.

DiCapo, who ultimately owned an interest in Italian Gardens, would become the public face of the family-owned restaurant that was a fixture in downtown Kansas City for 70 years. Carl DiCapo is also better-known for his fundraising efforts (for the Don Bosco Center and the World War I Museum, among others).
