Missouri Children of the American Revolution Corps of Discovery Society Musket Firing Demonstration Home of Aaron and Christy Waller Lone Jack, MO September 20, 2009
On September 20, 2009, Captain James Scott from the Independence Patriots Chapter Sons of the American Revolution, demonstrated the parts of a musket, the ball ammunition, black powder, loading procedures and firing of the musket. Several adults and children participated in firing several muskets. At the end of the presentation, a watermelon was used as a target. The watermelon was obliterated into small pieces with one shot from a musket. It was quite an event and all of the children and adults really enjoyed this event. On behalf of the Society, Anna DeVenney presented Captain Scott with a signed copy of the book Centennial Plus One: the Centennial History of the Children of the American Revolution, by Elenore Smallwood Niebel, as gift in his honor for the Independence Patriots SAR. Also, thanks to Aaron and Christy Waller of Lone Jack, MO for hosting this event.
