MOSSAR Awards Chairman Romie Carr and the MOSSAR Color Guard, on May 12, 2012, presented Ms. Katie Poggemeier the state winner of the 2012 George S. & Stella M. Knight Essay Contest with the Essay State Medal and Certificate. She also received a check for $500.00 from the Missouri State Society Sons of the American Revolution. The subject of Ms. Poggemeier’s Essay was “Thomas Paine: The Man Who
Changed Our Minds about Independence.” Katie is a senior at Odessa High School, Odessa, MO. Ms. Poggemeier’s mother, Mrs. Nancy Poggemeier and Compatriot David McCann, Harry S. Truman Chapter, were also present for the ceremony.
The contest is for an original researched and proven topic written in English. The topic of the essay shall deal with: an event, person, philosophy, or ideal associated with the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, or the framing of the United States Constitution.
