54th Pegasus Parade Louisville, Kentucky Thursday, April 30, 2009
Pictured here is MOSSAR Color Guard member Francis R. Roberson, Jr. from Sgt. Ariel Nims Chapter, during the 54th Pegasus Parade in Louisville, Kentucky on April 30, 2009. Now in its 54th year, the Republic Bank Pegasus Parade on April 30 dazzled Louisville with lively music, floats, balloons, dancers and more. This year's parade's theme is "Destinations and Discoveries." The parade, the Kentucky Derby Festival's founding and oldest event, debuted in 1956. It's held annually on the Thursday before the Kentucky Derby, which falls on May 2 this year. Boasting 100 units — including at least 13 floats — the procession traverses Broadway, Louisville's main thoroughfare, beginning at Campbell Street and moving west to Ninth Street.
