History Lesson - Funeral Profession and Embalming Practices from the Past
Harry S. Truman Chapter President Rommie Carr, the Harry S. Truman Chapter Color Guard and Mr. Lee Ward of Independence, Missouri are shown here at the October 14th 2006 meeting. Mr. Ward, a retired Funeral Director & Mortician and currently serving as Director of Pastoral Care at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Independence, provided a very interesting presentation and overview on the history of the Funeral profession and embalming practices. Mr. Ward also talked about his own private collection which is on display in his home.
Mr. Ward has a very active interest in the Civil War era and also discussed embalming practices starting during the Civil War to the current modern-day Funeral profession, to include variations of mortuary equipment, caskets, burial vaults, funerals being held in private homes, chapels and funeral homes.
