Vice-President Robert Grover and the Harry S. Truman Color Guard, are shown here presenting Dee A. Harris, who was our guest speaker at the May 10, 2014 meeting, with a Certificate of Appreciation. Dee Harris is the exhibits specialist for the National Archives at Kansas City, where she manages exhibition development. She previously served as the Director of Visual Arts and Humanities for the Mid-America Arts Alliance in Kansas City where she oversaw two national traveling exhibition programs. Harris received both her master’s degree in public history and bachelor’s degree in history from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. Vice President Robert Grover presented Ms. Harris with a Certificate of Appreciation and a HST Chapter coin.

Vice-President Robert Grover and the Harry S. Truman Color Guard, are shown here conducting a New Member Induction for Compatriot Michael Curtis Loudermilk, who was inducted into the SAR for his ancestor John Hughes. Patriot John Hughes was Quartermaster Sergeant, 1st Continental Dragoons, enlisted under Capt. Lucas’ Calvary, Gen. Scott’s Brigade. Compatriot Loudermilk was presented with his membership certificate, membership rosette, chapter challenge coin, and welcome packet by Vice President Robert Grover and sponsor Compatriot David McCann.

Compatriot Romie Carr and the Harry S. Truman Color Guard, are shown here with Cadet Joshua Ramirez. Cadet Ramirez is member of the Van Horn high school JROTC. He submitted an essay on the subject of “How the JROTC has prepared me to become a better citizen of the United States of America”. He is our chapter winner of the Knight Essay. His essay was then submitted to the State and he was the State award winner. It has now been submitted into the National competition. Joshua was accompanied by his parents. He read his essay and was presented with a check for $50 from the HST Chapter, a medal and a certificate by Compatriot Carr.
