Patriot Richard Bradley assisted in establishing American Independence as a Private on board a Georgia Militia galley ship under Commodore Oliver Bowen’s command. His service and pension records indicate the rank of Private in the Georgia Militia while his tombstone indicates the rank of Captain in the U.S. Navy.  He was awarded 100 acres bounty for his service.
 
Richard was born 1765 in Savannah Christ Church Parish, Georgia and died 18 April 1838 in Johnson County, Missouri.  He is buried at Blackwater Cemetery, which is located at 1124 NW 400th Road, Centerview, Missouri at coordinates: N38° 49' 41.84" and W93° 57' 12.06".  Richard has a military tombstone with a DAR marker.
