Patriot Andrew Means assisted in establishing American Independence by providing patriot service to the North Carolina Militia and taking the oath of allegiance in 1779.  His military tombstone lists him as a Private in the North Carolina Continental Line.
 
Andrew was born in 1740 in Ireland and died on 3 August 1826 in Clay County, Missouri.  He is buried at the Means Cemetery, which is a small family cemetery located at 11604 Stockdale Road, Liberty, Missouri at coordinates: N39° 17' 31.92" and W94° 20' 30.81".  His grave has been marked by the DAR Alexander Doniphan Chapter.  There are reports Andrew may actually be buried at his son Abijah’s farm in Clay County, Missouri.
