The MOSSAR Color Guard, along with Westport Camp #64, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War; conducted a Memorial Service for Cornell and Charles Crysler, to pay a tribute of respect to our Brother and his father buried at Mount Washington Cemetery in Independence, Missouri. Brian Smarker, Senior Vice Commander of Westport Camp and Past Department of Missouri Commander announced that it was with great honor, to proudly read the City of Independence Proclamation recognizing March 24, 2013, as “Crysler Remembrance Day”, honoring Captain Cornell Crysler and his son Charles Sumner Crysler.

Cornell Crysler served during the Civil War as a Captain, Company D, 122nd New York Infantry. When the Civil War began, Cornell Crysler put his law business aside and answered Lincoln’s call raising volunteer Company D, 122nd New York Infantry serving as its captain. Captain Crysler participated in every campaign up through the battle of Antietam. He then rode with General Sheridan to Winchester.

In 1884, Mr. Charles Crysler became a Charter Member and, subsequently, the first Division of Missouri Commander for the Sons of Veterans of the United States of America, a term he held for two years.
