347th Meeting Harry S. Truman Chapter Independence, Missouri Saturday, June 14, 2014
President Donald Lewis and the Harry S. Truman Color Guard, are shown here presenting Retired U.S. Army Colonel James L. "Spike" Speicher, who was our guest speaker at the June 14, 2014 meeting, with a Certificate of Appreciation. Colonel Speicher's topic was on: “The Importance of the Valley Forge Encampment”. Colonel Speicher discussed the famous Valley Forge encampment of 1777 - 1778. Despite disease and deprivation, the rag tag colonial rebels were turned into an army capable of standing strong against the best trained and supplied army Europe had to offer. At the closing of the ceremony, Colonel James L. "Spike" Speicher also received his Harry S. Truman Chapter Coin.
